World Teachers Day Friday 29th October
St Joseph's Regional College - Celebrating our wonderful teachers on World Teachers' Day.
Teachers, with support from parents and carers, have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.
Final Day Year 12 2021
Year 12 graduated from 13 years of formal education on Monday 25th October 2021. This year has been such an extraordinary year but this amazing group of young men and women have stayed focused, committed, and flexible. Despite having their formal graduation rites of passage this week cancelled, they experienced a last day of school like no other. Fun and friendship were celebrated with their Year Coordinator, Ms Heidi Flanagan, and their PC teachers. PC trivia, a colour run, PC lunch, “Most likely” awards, and a montage of beautiful virtual messages from their parents were capped off with the drummers leading them out of the College for the last time.
Thank you to Ms Heidi Flanagan, who as we all know, is an amazing Year, 12 Leader. Always doing what is best for the students in her care.
Thanks to the team who assisted Ms Flanagan - Michael Walsh, Kylie Wallis, Braden Saggers, Donna Eames, Dave Constantine, Janine Handley, Carly Taylor, PC teachers Gordon West, Gerard Toohey, Fiona Jensen, Anne Twomey, Leanne Tinsey and Heidi O'Reilly, Julianne Byrne, Emily Burg, Matthew Strumolo, Martin Loane, John Sprague, Claire Goldie, Tom Inatey, Donna Hamlin, Debbie Kennaugh, Julie Hickling and Shari Holtham.
Congratulations to the Class of 2021. You are truly inspirational.

Ceremony of Light - Announcement of Students Leaders for 2022
On Wednesday, we gathered, virtually, as a College community to witness the inauguration of our new Student Leaders for 2022.
Our College candle represents the light of Jesus and the life and faith of our College. It assists in lighting the way for our journey through our school years and into adult life. It also represents the leadership shown by our past Year 12 students.
At the Ceremony of Light, Ella Handley and Joseph Lewis, our 2021 College Captains, passed on this symbol to our College Captains, symbolising a formal hand-over of the responsibilities and leadership of a Year 12 group. As one group graduates and departs the College, another group steps up to fill the role. We wish our incoming Student Leadership Team all the best as they take up their new roles as leaders of St Joseph's Regional College.
New Leadership Positions
This year we have introduced new Leadership positions. These positions will play an important and vital role in fulfilling the College’s desire to further grow the characteristics of our young leaders of the future.
I congratulate students for being the first elected to these new positions and I look forward to seeing your ideas come to life.
Student Leaders - Mission
The following leaders will be members of the Senior Youth Ministry Team and will work with the Leader of Evangelisation and the Youth Ministry Officers to foster Mission and Service within our College community. These leaders will be integral in presenting and encouraging service opportunities to the students at College assemblies.
Student Leader - Wellbeing
These leaders will promote the well-being of every member of our College community. The leaders will collaborate and work alongside the Leader of Student Wellbeing, in providing wellbeing tips, Pastoral Care, and lunchtime activities for students. These leaders will be pivotal in promoting wellbeing initiatives at our College assemblies.
Student Leader - Sustainability
These leaders will role model respect and genuine care for the environment at our College and in the wider community. These students will be required to show initiative in the development of ideas to create a cleaner and greener College environment.
They will work with the College’s ‘Green Team’ and staff members to implement their ideas. These leaders will be tasked with the role of motivating students at College assemblies in the achievement of our initiatives for improved Sustainability.
Congratulations to our newly elected Student Leadership Team for the remainder of 2021 and into 2022:

SAPSS Drumline make it FOUR in a ROW!
On Sunday, October 24, the St Agnes' Catholic Parish Secondary Schools Drumline, competing as the Port Macquarie Vanguard, took out their 4th consecutive national title in the Optimum Percussion Australian Drumline Competition. Current COVID restrictions meant the competition was both delayed and via Livestream, and despite numerous challenges throughout the year the members of the Drumline and Colour Guard captured a performance that won the day with their technical dexterity & clarity, visual precision, and impassioned presentation.
This year's show was titled "Across The Sky", an original piece written and visually arranged by their instructor Mark Spence. It interprets the universal elements and myths of humanity through rhythm and movement, and is a tour de force of storytelling through modern marching percussion. The Drumline also performed a Test Piece titled "Shishkabob", which was written by adjudicator Julie Davila and performed by all of the Division A Drumlines, and was included in the final scoring tabulations.
This year's competition was the closest yet, with a very small margin separating the top three drum lines, and all performers and instructors should be commended on a job well done, (especially in these trying times.) In addition to being crowned Champion Drumline, the Port Macquarie Vanguard also earned the award for Best Snare Section in the Caption Awards.
Members of the SAPSS Drumline and Colour Guard are rightfully proud and excited to capture a 4th consecutive national title and are already hard at work on next year's show. Huge thanks to all the support that the leadership, teachers, and staff of St. Joseph's Regional College, MacKillop College, and the entire St Agnes' Catholic Parish have shown the drumline over the years as well. This would not be possible without them.
Kind Regards
Mark Spence
Pastoral and Spiritual Care is about more than religion. It is about what gives us a purpose in our lives. It is about our sources of meaning and hope, which is intimately related to our connectedness to ourselves, to others, to the world, and to a higher power (God).
As we celebrate Pastoral and Spiritual Care week (24-30 October) we thank those people in our lives who nurture us spiritually and pastorally. We remember too that, we, in turn, have a Pastoral and Spiritual care role to play in encouraging others to live their best lives.
Month of Remembrance
November is traditionally the month in which the Church remembers those who have died. The Month of Remembrance commences on Monday, 1st November with All Saints Day, which is a feast that is celebrated by the Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, and Anglican Churches. This is then followed on Tuesday, 2nd November by All Souls Day, where we remember and pray for the dead.
We are invited, in a special way, to remember our family and friends who have died, especially those who have passed in the previous year.
Lighting a candle is a lovely way to remind us of the light of Christ who shines on those we love and honour at this time. St Agne's Parish Church is always open during the day so we welcome you to come along during this special month of remembrance.
St Agnes' Church Gospel Reflections
Fr Paul Gooley is continuing to provide Gospel readings and reflections via email and online Monday to Saturday for those interested in connecting with their faith in this way.

Guest Recommender
Our Guest Recommender is Kieran in Year 8, and his book of choice is the latest by Rick Riordan - "Daughter of the Deep".
Kieran's review ~ Daughter of the Deep is a new book by Rick Riordan. It is a spin-off of the story ‘20000 leagues under the sea’. Where the original book ends with Captain Nemo sinking his ship, this book starts many years later. The main character in this book is a descendant of Captain Nemo who has to survive and command an entire ship. I have read many of the previous books by Rick Riordan and have always enjoyed them and it was the same for this book. I really engaged with this book as it has a fast-moving storyline and characters that make for a good story. All of this combined makes Daughter of the Deep as amazing as all the other books written by Rick Riordan.~ Reserve your copy at the Library now - your action-packed adventure awaits!

Year 9 Food Technology students used their precision cutting knife skills to prepare a variety of vegetables to make Rice Paper Rolls. The vegetables were julienne cut and rolled into the rice paper. Students needed to take care to produce rice paper rolls that were consistent in size and shape. Students found the rolling difficult as the rice paper was quite sticky. A great effort from all students!
