Term 3 Week 10 - 17th September 2021

Term 4, Change of Commencement Date for Students

date_change.jfif

After considering the amount of time students have been away from school and the demands on families, we have made the decision to postpone our Staff Development Day from the first day of Term 4 to partway through the term.

Term 4 will commence for ALL students on Tuesday 5th October 2021.

Term 3 2021 has been a term we will never forget. Things have not gone exactly to plan but there is so much to be grateful for. It was great to reconnect with our community this week and witness the friendship and fun that flourishes in our College.

A heartfelt thank you to students, staff and families for adhering so well to the Level 3 COVID-19 guidelines of mask-wearing and social distancing. At this stage, Level 3 restrictions will continue into Term 4 so please ensure your child attends school each day with a mask.

A reminder to families to ensure students return to Term 4 in the correct College summer uniform, including shoes, hairstyles and jewellery.

Year 12

A shout out to our Year 12 students. Despite a change in learning style, online Trial HSC exams, changes to HSC exam dates and "Term 5", they have shown so much resilience and positivity. They are an amazing group of young people who I am so proud of.

Today, we celebrated all things great about Year 12 with a pizza lunch. We are looking forward to having them continue next term and we have great celebrations yet to come.

Phoebe Bentley NSWCCC Age Champion & Record Breaker

This week we received a trophy and letter of congratulations for Phoebe Bentley on being named the NSWCCC 17+years Age Champion for 2021. Phoebe also received two certificates of recognition for breaking NSWCCC records in the following events.

  • New NSWCCC Record 100m Freestyle - new record 58.48s
  • New NSWCCC Record 100m Freestyle 58.86s

We would like to congratulate Phoebe who competed in six events at the NSW All Schools Swimming Championships in May as part of the NSW Catholic Combined Colleges Team. Unfortunately, due to COVID, there were no School Sport Australia events in 2021 so students who finished top three in their event were listed in the NSW All Schools Merit Squad. We again congratulate Phoebe on making this squad in three events.

An outstanding achievement, Phoebe!

Prayer for the End of the Virus

Almighty and merciful God, who shows love to all you created,
we come before you asking for a faster control of the Coronavirus
currently ravaging our world.

We ask, for those affected by the virus,
that you grant healing to the sick,
eternal life to
those who have died and consolation
to bereaved families.

We pray for the relevant governments and
health authorities that they take appropriate
steps for the good of all people and that
all people take up their responsibility to have
the vaccine that combats the illness.

In your mercy and love, help and guide us
through the hard times, we are facing.

We ask this through Christ, Your Son. Amen.

Biblical Micrography

Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 this week have taken the opportunity to reflect on one of Bible passages that they have studied over the last three terms utilising their heads, hearts and hands. Using Biblical Micrography, students chose a passage that they were familiar with and created an artwork that reflected the essence of the bible passage.

A biblical Micrography is an art form derived from the Jewish tradition of illuminating the sacred text and is also used in marriage contracts. In the Christian tradition Biblical Micrography is also used as a form of meditation and a way in which the artist can deepen their relationship with scripture and with God. If you would like to try Biblical Micrography during the holidays you can find step by step instructions here: http://bishopsartprize.weebly.com/biblical-micography.html

CSU Year 12 Parent and Student Information Session

CSU is holding a second Parent Information Night for 2021 on 21st September (from 6:30pm). This online event is a great opportunity for parents and students to get in contact with the experts about their plans for next year! We’ve arranged for UAC to join us on the night and they will be running their own information session, covering off any changes due to COVID-19. There will also be the opportunity for parents and students to ask any questions they might have too.

We have designed the online event to be as interactive and fun as possible (we are mindful everyone is getting a little over Zoom style events)! Students and parents will have the opportunity to pick from one of three faculty sessions, and one of four specialist sessions:

  • UAC information session
  • Early entry and Charles Sturt Advantage
  • Accommodation
  • The cost of uni and scholarships.

Please register here.

Charles Sturt Advantage early offer program extended

As a result of the challenges and disruptions COVID has caused with schooling and exams this year, we have decided to extend the Charles Sturt Advantage early offer applications and have added a third round.

Round 3 is open now (it has been open since 1 September) and will close at midnight on Monday 4 October. Students who apply between 1 September and Midnight 4 October will be notified of the result of their application in late October. The same course offerings will be available, with some courses still being competitive, and the application process is the same as Round 1 and 2.

Hopefully, this additional round will be able to provide students who may have missed out with a bit of certainty!

More information on the Advantage early offer program is available here.
