CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
The Careers Program at St Joseph’s Regional College encourages all students to make informed career decisions based upon a realistic awareness of their strengths, aspirations, and the full range of options open to them.
Careers services include a career resource area located in the Senior Study Centre which houses comprehensive print and online material for all students. Two fully qualified careers advisers are available for careers consultations. We utilise social networking to provide current information to students via a closed group on Facebook and Twitter. The college careers website and Moodle intranet also contain additional links and procedural documents. Students and parents are encouraged to attend a series of events, information evenings and workshops which provide up to date information on career education and post-school options. Students in Years 11 and 12 and their parents receive weekly emailed newsletters. Year 10 have the opportunity to undertake Work Experience to gain first-hand knowledge of the world of work.
Careers education is specifically concerned with assisting students to develop knowledge of themselves and their future planning so that they are able to make a smooth transition from school to further education or the workforce. Students at the conclusion of Year 10 have the choice to remain at the college to pursue an academic HSC pathway to university, or alternatively attend Newman Senior Technical College to complete a vocationally oriented HSC. All Year 10 students complete a comprehensive careers program that includes personality and strengths recognition, career matching, resume building and personal consultations. The careers education focus in Year 11 & 12 is on the preparation for tertiary entrance and individual consultations.
