Principal’s Message T4W5 Inspired by our Youth & College Traffic Plan

Inspired by our Youth
It is truly inspiring to witness young people leading their peers and having the courage to make the world a better place. Please share with me some examples of inspired leadership by our Youth:

Youth Ministry Officers’ show discipleship in facilitating “Year 8 Catch the Wave”
My gratitude to Leader of Evangelisation Mrs Helen Gilbert, our Youth Ministry Officer, Christa Morrow, Mrs Croft and all staff who assisted in the Year 8 Catch the Wave Day last Friday. When I entered the hall I witnessed 200 Year 8 students actively engaged with Christa as the main Facilitator for the day. Christa did a fantastic job and will, without doubt, make a great teacher in Catholic Schools in the future.

Congratulations also to our two YMO’s for 2018, Cassidy New and Vincent Behan who assisted Christa on the day.

I would encourage all of those Year 8 students who are giving consideration to joining the CSYMA class for 2018 to pray about your decision and contemplate how you as a young person can make a significant difference for the better in our future world.

Ex-St Joseph’s Regional College students shine on Q&A:
This week I have similarly been impressed by a number of ex-St Joseph’s Regional students who appeared this week on Q&A (ABC TV). Our previous students represented Newman Senior Technical College on Q&A’s Schools’ Feature Program. Congratulations to Lachlan Ross, Jordie Gibson, Patrick McKinnon, Emma Waters and Harry Hanley for their representation. Harry deserves a special mention as the selected student to pose a question to the panel, which included the Federal Minister for Education, Hon. Senator Simon Birmingham and the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Education, Hon.Tanya Pliberseck.

Senior Students, Brave Inclement Weather to Attend Senior English Evening:
On Monday evening Mr McCosker and I had the pleasure of attending the Senior English Workshop presented by Ms Reiger and capably assisted by Ms Jess Arthur, Ms Anne Twomey, and Ms Anne Marchment. Our students and families braved a dark and ominous storm to attend this confidence-boosting workshop. It was only fitting for us all to be greeted and enlightened by a magnificent rainbow in the sky at the day’s end. Thanks once again to Mrs Carol Avery who prepared a delicious afternoon tea.

Melbourne Cup – Year 12 Day
In keeping with Tradition at St Joseph’s Regional College, Year 12 students dressed for the Melbourne Cup, held a barbecue lunch with their teachers and competed in their annual fashion parade. A fun day was had by all in this unity promoting activity. Thank you to Mr Chris Kalchbauer, Leader of Pastoral Care Year 11 for your organisation of the day and senior Pastoral Care teachers for donning your finest attire.

Principal’s References
Over the past few months, I have had the pleasure of writing Principal’s References for our leaving HSC students and I have really enjoyed getting to know Year 12 students better as a result.

Principal’s References will be posted to students as they are completed.

I would also like to express a very special thank you to Mrs Joanne Williams, Senior Pastoral Care teachers and staff who contributed to the overall process. It was a real team effort!

HSC Supervisors – Thank You
I wish to sincerely thank Mrs Sonia Johl, HSC Presiding Officer and her team of supervisors, Bernie Coates, Melissa Scarff, Karen Cooper, Alex Philips, Lisa Witte, Anne-Maree Vandejagt and Candice Engelbert for ensuring the HSC examination period ran smoothly.
Thank you to St Joseph’s Regional College teaching staff and support staff for preparing students for the HSC examinations.

College Safety
As the year comes to a close I feel it is timely to remind families about collecting students from the College.
Please find below information on the collection of children from the College and a Traffic Management Map.

God Bless
